Do you need assistance in purchasing Assistive Technology?

Alabama's Alternative Finance Program for individuals with disabilities and their families allows applicants to borrow money at low interest or extended terms for the purchase of assistive technology, adaptive equipment and related services. Alternative financing needs may include, but will not be limited to, a means of paying for devices not covered by public programs, of providing a loan sooner than other public programs, and/or of having another funding source available.

Project ACT

Computer technology training modules specifically targeted for people with developmental disabilities and related conditions. The content of these training modules will cover topics which will primarily increase computer literacy and ACDD - Alabama Council For Developmental Disabilitiespromote independence, including:

  • basic computer skills,
  • internet navigation, and
  • internet safety

    Available Modules

    • If you struggle to see text, need larger fonts, and find it difficult to use the computer.  Then take this course to learn how to change the Microsoft Operating System to make the computer easier to use. 

    • This module provides lessons in free solutions to the most common accessibility needs.
    • Here is how to choose the right Office program for your project!
    • Learn the in's and out's of your computer, from basic computer parts to how it all connects together. 

    • Learn different types of devices that can make adapting and navigating on the computer much easier depending on your specific needs.
    • These modules will teach you how the basics of the internet and internet safety.
    • Learn how to send and receive electronic messages over the internet.
    • Learn how to keep in touch with friends, co-workers, family using social networking on your computer. 

    • Malicious software, or malware, can do alot of harm to your computer resulting in loss of resources, time and money. Learning how to prevent this from happening and what to do when it does, will keep your computer up and running.
